Grab Bag - September 21, 2007
Short 'n' sweets, that is. Here we go!
Q. I remember reading in previous herald post that, as a Scout, Hunter, or Ranger, when you have no Damage Type (Buff?) selected it automatically sets you as slash damage. What if you are using a Legendary Tempestuous Bow? Do you do Slash damage or Spirit damage with your arrows? And would that affect ALL damage types or just the physical shots (Critical, Point-Blank, Power, Standard, Rapid, Long, Siege)?
A. I asked this of my new best friend, The Balancinator, who explained: When you have the Legendary Tempestuous Bow equipped, it changes the damage type from Slash to Spirit. It works this way for all normal damage shots, but specialty shots such as Cold shot will, appropriately, change the damage to cold damage.
Q. Did getting rp's for repairing walls get taken out or just forgotten this last patch?
A. There's currently a bug in which walls associated with siege towers do not provide rps when repaired. A fix is in testing on Pendragon now. We also made quite a few changes in the tower system in general. You can read the notes here. http://www.camelotherald.com/patches.php
Q. I was told that a disease spell cast on a player doesn't affect their ability to use a HOT. Is this true?
A. HoT's or Heal over Time spells are designed that way. They ignore disease checks to help out the effectiveness of these really weak heal spells. It was to give them a specific use in the pvp and pve world. So, according to The Balancinator, if you use a HoT while diseased, it will heal you for the normal healing amount.
Q. Reading through the patch notes, I saw that the maximum amount of concentration spells that could be cast was raised from 20 to 50. I was under the assumption that meant that buffing classes (Bards, Wardens & Druids) would be able to cast 50 buffs instead of 20. I logged my Druid in for the first time since 1.90 went live last night, but ran out of conc after the usual 20 buffs. Why did this happen?
A. I told you he was my new best friend! Here's what the Balincinator says: We didn't change concentration points or concentration costs. You're most likely doing base buffs and spec buffs. You'll run out of concentration points before you can exceed 20 buffs. If you just base buff people you will in fact exceed the previous 20 buff limit.
Q. The second charge on the Ring of Azure is a 10% to all magic resists. My question is: does that mean I get a 10% second tier resists to all magic dmg?
A. The Lady of the Jewels tested this internally, and here's what she found out: The resist bonus from this ability is treated as a Realm Ability bonus resists would be, which have also been referred to as second tier, or Bin B resists (see the Grab Bag from June 22nd http://www.camelotherald.com/news/news_article.php?storyid=3130). The answer then to this question is yes, this item does add 10% to all magic resists on top of any all ready applied resists for its duration, just as the realm ability Avoidance of Magic would.
Q. I had to reinstall windows on my computer, and was not able to back up daoc. I bought all of the downloads online, and so do not have the discs to reinstall the game activated. Do I have to repurchase the game and all expansions, or will I be able to download them again at no charge?
A. Our Tech Guru looked into this for me and found out that we have a knowledgebase article addressing this very question. Here it is: http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/article.php?id=900
Basically, start with the trial then download all the expansions one at a time until you get where you want to be. We don't have full "one file" packages for each client available, you have to do the tiered system we outline in the Knowledgebase.
The following siege-based questions have been answered by none other than the Bearded Wonder. I know I have said it before, but this Wonder really lives up to his name. Thanks, BW!
Q. What siege gear requires a siege tent?
A. Siege engines with the 'sturdy' qualifier or greater and the infernal engineering recipes require that the crafter be within 7000 units of a Siege Tent.
Q. If I want to set up multiple Trebs say, do I need a Tent for each?
A. No. The siege tent operates just like any other crafting tool in that it can be used by anyone in that realm, no matter how many siege engines you're making.
Q. Will we get a recipe for the Siege Towers?
A. No, because of how the recipe works in the system.
Q. As we all know, level 10 keeps and towers require a "ton" of wood units to even attempt a repair. Might I suggest that a stackable (crafted) item be added in siege or woodworking that might allow a person to be able to carry enough wood units to be able to start a repair?
A. There is a new amenity hookpoint mob being introduced in 1.90a that will sell siegecraft supplies in keeps. This will help in getting wood for repairs.

That's it for this week everyone. Hope you have a great weekend and I'll see you on the flip side.
